As above, how far would you be prepared to travel to go to a car show?

Just this morning, i had a little brainstormer and was thinking of how things would be, if a MASSIVE Ford show was organised between RSOC Ireland and Northern Ireland, as well as getting folk from all the Ford clubs across the uk and ireland etc!! There is already a big show in Portrush, Northern Ireland (yes where the golf irish open was held), but is too far out of the way for most southern irish folk, and the southern guys have RS National Day just outside Dublin (its a bit more handy and central to alot of folk from north and south ireland)

For example, GTINI (VAG forum) has suceedeed with their show "Dubshed" - where they have gotten so big across the last 5/6yrs, where they always get southern folk up and even ones from england, as well as this year getting polish and germans!!!

So what if a mass organised event was to take place (bit like Portrush) but not really awkward to get to for all!???

I know quite a few car shows (NIBMW, NI-Vaux, ScoobyIreland, Classic Car Club to name a few) happen in my home town of Carrickfergus (just 10 miles north of Belfast (ps. its an example...not just because its on my doorstep...i would be up for travelling to most places, so long funds where good) - but i know, the town council and police dont mind shutting down the massive castle carpark, as they already play host to the "Quay Vipers" club motorcycle show and there is plenty of hotels in the area, that would be happy to make deals regarding folk coming from afar (say £40 for the night - i think the premier inn in particular is usually £60 a night)....and the Harbour Point bar, does food deals for the quay vipers show. So im sure a deal could be struck. Also the police help out a little with traffic control!! And to be honest its a lovely dry location to have a show!! Plenty of other carparks nearby to park trailers too!! Few fast food places nearby as well!! mcds, kfcm a few american diners ...to name a few.

Boats are handy enough in price to get from the mainland and they are all within a reasonable driving distance to my Carrickfergus (that even includes going into Dublin ferry port)

So posted this on here to see if encouragement to a few, would sway them to come to a show here!!

Direct boats from Scotland:
P&O - Troon or Cairnryan to Larne (25 mins from the location) *2.5hrs
Stena Line - Cairnryan to Belfast (20 mins from the location) *2.5hrs

Direct boats from England (would probably suit Northern England):
Norfolkline: Liverpool to Belfast (20 mins from the location) *8hr overnight ferry with cabin...still cheap)

Direct boats from Wales (MAY suit Middle and southern England):
Irish Ferries: Holyhead to Dublin *3.5hrs (2.5 hrs MAX from the location)
Stena line: Holyhead to Dublin *3.5hrs (2.5 hrs MAX from the location)

OR even if you just wanted to fly, check out flights with Aer Lingus and Flybe to Belfast City, and Easyjet to Belfast INT.

Its just info gathering guys!! I know quite a few guys come over to RS National day in England, as well as Ford Fair and a few other shows too! And tbh next year im planning to either do them both or at least one. So just wondered would any folk here do the same, or even be up for it??

I go over to Ireland regularly but I always go on the plane, too expensive on the ferry :(

 Might well do mate, although I'm getting on a bit nowadays :P

How's Carrick lately? I'm only up the road in Glengormley when I stay :) Used to drink in a hotel bar which had a bit of a club on the side of it a few years back, can't remember what it was called though.

I went from Glasgow to Castle Combe with a trailer and took us 9 hours on the way down due to heoorendous traffic and weather

Id go to almost any track day to experience a new track, but static shows maximum id probably do now would be 3 hours one way

Oh my god, it was Charlies!! :D Haha nice one!

I lived there from 2000-2003, worked in the Abbey Centre for most of that. Yeah, I have family there so still make the short plane ride as often as I can, we live just off the Carnmoney Road.

I often think of coming over in the Pulsar, but when it comes to booking tickets, it's not cheap getting it to Liverpool and then the cost of the ferry, makes it nigh on £200, as opposed to £70-100 for the plane which is only 45 mins flight time vs 8 hours on a wobbly boat

I may well do it next summer though :D

Ford guys??? :0 You didn't say I'd have to mingle with those!

I may well do mate. I really want to drive the Pulsar up the coast so Portrush would be an ideal drive from Belfast! :D

I'm not sure if I've already drove through there, when I was last over I went to a sort of mini sea life centre thingy with my family. Can't remember for the life of me what it's called though!

Well, I can't commit for sure, but now I know it's on, it's something to aim for as a deciding factor as to when I visit next year :)
