Wot did it fail on?

Sometimes garages make things sound alot worse than they actually are. One time I took my 1.1 fez to a garage for an mot and it failed and the guy said "you may consider scrapping this car sir", and all it failed on was a patch of rust on one sill! :lolz:

nearside outer (sill) subframe mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded

nearside outer (sill) seat belt anchorage prescribed area is excessively corroded

anti-lock braking system warning lamp indicates and ABS fault

offside front brake pipe excesssively corroded

offside headlamp aim aimed so that it dazzles other road users

those were the fails

1. fit brand new brake pipes all round

2. fit new discs, pads and calipers to car.

3. change wheels to my own RS wheels.

4. try to find problem with abs light........not too sure where to start.

That lot isn't too bad. Sounds like you need a new outer sill and a patch welding on the floorpan for the welding. If you know someone who can weld, a new sill only costs a tenner to buy so that wud be a cheap fix, and as for the patch, just cut a plate and weld it on.

For the break pipes, just buy a roll of copper breakpipe and fit by bending it to shape (you will need a breakpipe flaring kit to make the joints, just get from machine mart) and then just adjust the driving light using the screwthread on it.

Sorry, i don't no what to suggest for the abs light, other than take the bulb out!

With regards to the ABS.

Bin it. Dont just remove the dash light, if its faulty is will make your car swerve under braking and cause serious problems!

Just remove the belts and the abs modules.

You can either take the two pipes from the brake servo to the block down the passener side which splits into 4. You should really fit a non abs brake servo with 4 pipe outlets (although I ran with the abs servo, and has no problems)

Also there is a load sensor on the rear axel.. bin that and join the pipes up with some connectors.

Remove ABS dash light.

Job done ;)

That's not too bad at all! :)

As has been said, buy a roll of copper brake pipe, this will do the whole car. You'll also need the end connections to go on, BEFORE the brake pipe gets flared  Otherwise you won't get it on. I got a roll of brake pipe for about £7, done all the pipes on an Escort and still had some left over. Easy job, just a bit time consuming and fiddly. You'll need new brake fluid aswell, and it may take a while to get all the air out once you've changed the pipes so be prepared to take your time on this when bleeding.

As for the headlight, jeeeez, my MOT man just adjusts them there and then for me. It's just a screw that turns to adjust the engle of the light. Drive up to a wall and turn the lights on and do it from there.

Welding, just go and get it done by someone who knows what they're doing, although if you have access to a welder, give it a blast. :)

Brakes are a piece of piss to do, if you've never done them before you'll be surprised at how little there is to them. Just make sure you've got some decent sockets and a breaker bar of some sort to help remove the caliper brackets if you're changing the discs, they usually rust on.

:)

cheers guys for the advice. im going to do all the bits soon as i get extra cash....moving out this month so i guess thats gonna take priorities.

im liking the Cossie idea of break upgrade. where would i get all The bits from i.e discs, pads, calipers from also what size are they just standard cossie break set up?

gonna look into the abs on how to get rid of it completely....is this still legal tho?

It's still legal yes, but you'll have to tell your insurance as you'll effectively be removing a safety feature, which may put your insurance up.

It might not as they might not have a clue it's even on there in the first place!

You do realise that where it says brake pipes excessively coroded, it's not the flexi hose that goes into the caliper, but the metal brake lines from the servo to the flexi pipe?

Just checking, not doubting
