anyone have any idea how much an alternator would set me back compared to just the brush pack?
My alternator has been funny, like its feeding overcharge through the battery.
Battery light flickers on and just keeps flickering randomly @3000rpm.
Had my dad and mark look at it the alternator is giving off charge fine and mark said he suspects the brush pack needs replacing.

Just wondering what i can expect to pay for the alternator and/or brush pack.
Like i said alternator is fine but if its cheaper to just get a new alternator then i suppose ill go that route.

Sorry if this is in wrong place as its not a tech problem as i know what it is just need to know prices :)

tbh nowadays replacement is cheaper than rebuuild so a good secondhand alternater would probably be cheaper than a new part to put in your alternater

thought new alternator would be the cheaper route to go down.
Annoying thing is this is a now and again thing. Doesn't happen all the time.
At the weekend going to make sure it is earthed properly before i go ahead and get a new alternator. Just seems like the alternator can't discharge normally.

 cheers dawn will look into them and see if they can get one for mine. At that price i can at least afford it this month. They can have my old alternator if they want it in exchange :)

ok sorry to revive dead topic but is it the 65 for the si or the 70 or does it not matter as long as it is one of those 2

I always thought that alternators were like £30-£40
Because i've changed a few on Fiestas and they were about that price from Halfrauds... however they were for the good old HCS engines lol

Nope. They aren't that cheap but I wish they were!
Nevermind my question the alternator that was on the car had the sticker still on it (the one off didn't as normal) and its a 70 that I need.
