im looking to put a puma engine into my mk4 soon and basically i need a bit off advice on buying an enigne,

how much should i be looking to pay?
and whats the best things to look for when buying a second hand engine?

im currantly watching an engine on ebay, thats complete with gearbox, engine mount, ecu and engine wiring loom, throttle cable, driveshafts, airflow meter, key and chip and code reader and is on a buy it now at £450

these seems like a resonable price but thought i get some advice first?

and sorry to the mods if ive posted in the wrong section :)

hi mate that seems a pritty good price
they range from £300-£600 ish depending on whats with them and mileageas
as you have a mk4 you will need a pre 2000 car with the analouge dash the same as your mk4 as later digi dash cars have different wiring looms.
all puma 1.7 engines should have had a cam belt change by now every 5 years or 80k

if you can here the engine running then thats a bonus aswell so you can look out for any untoward noises

have a look on zsoc.com as there is tons of threads and guides on puma conversions

thanks for the advice  will have a look on zsoc..

i already knew about the looms, if i got to change it from analogue to digital that im too bothered about doing that, i know its a lot off work but all the decent engine's seem to be digital lol

the engine im lookin at on ebay has only done 68000 so i think it should be in resonable condition :)
