How do you get into rally driving?
There seems to be no set way to do it, look ok the Internet and I can seem to find anything. It's something that's always interested me, driving fast, sliding round corners in fast loud machines  costs a shed load and crashes can be costly. But then I don't know
much about it because there is nothing.
Anyone have a clue?

Get a car, get licence, get blue book, build to class regs, get it scrutineered, rally.

Sounds good. Was going to build a track car out of my si eventually so then it could progress. Rally cars are awesome.

All depends what type of rallying you want to do, there are british rally's around the uk where you just build the car to suit the rules, might have to take a quick exam or something to show you read the rules, then you can do rally days with that club kinda thing. Wont be anything proper of course.

If you want to do it professionally, you have to get a rally licence.

Quick google search found this:

Mmm. I'm thinking it's gonna be out of your price range. You have to have some serious money to run a rally car! Maybe head towards sprinting, thats a lot more n00b friendly and a lot cheaper. I wouldn't use the Fiesta as sadly it'll be well out of class (it'll prob fall into production >1400cc and you'll be competing with some serious kit!) If you built something mildly tweeked it can do hillclimbs, sprints and trackdays without much worry. Just fit kit like, cage, fire equipment and a few performance mods like good brake pads and some good rubber.

Head over to the MSA website for information on clubs, regs and classes.

Yeah after looking at that site it does put you off. The original plan was to have a daily and buil the fiesta up as a track car once I finish doing my mechanics apprentaship. Then ijist thought it could progress from there, but it ain't so easy as that clearly.

you do have to be very careful when preparing any competition vehicle to follow the class rules. say for instance you have a sierra competing in the dunlop motorsport news championship. DMN for short. you have a 2.8 ohv engine..i may be wrong but i think that sits you in class D maybe C..not that fast..quite competive. and wont be burning shed loads of cash. chuck the 2.9 quad cam cosworth in..N/A still i might add. because of the capacity and head design that will bang you straight into class A with the anything goes cosworth powered things..500 bhp mk2 escorts and the like. and those dudes dont dick about. alot have been racing a long time and know what theyre doing. with cars regularly attaining 3 figure speeds with cars less than a foot away for at least the first few laps you cant afford mistakes.

any form of competion will require a race licence. not a joyride how sideways can i go test. its to examine your car control techniques. not one flukey scare ride for the examiner through a forest in the case of a rally exam. or a hot lap of a circuit.if they think your dangerous. you wont get one. end of. theres also different categories. which will allow you to compete at different levels in different disciplines. i.e rallying/hillclimbing etc

sprints and hill climbs are a good place to start. events are on tarmac or concrete so its not as 'in at the deep end' as gravel/dirt but its a good grounding to start from and wont land you in alot of hot water with the bank. provided you dont stuff it into the scenery every time. also with these events. you can still run road legal cars. youll still have to install saftey gear. but you wont have to trailer it. altho this is a bonus if it blows up or you stuff it.

hope that helps.

right first things first never mind all the other bollocks on this page join a car club(there must be one close to you) secondly im guessing you dont have at least £300-£400 a month to spend so look for grass autotests should cost no more than £50 a month trust me this is the cheapest most fun type of motorsport out there all you need is a car that has failed its mot as long as it still runs and a set of grass tyres for the front (dont put them on the back as it wont slide about as much)and your laughing almost forgot a working handbrake is the most important thing have a search on google and you should find something like this
