I'm thinking of buying a 1990 Fiesta XR2i for a restoration project. They main thing stopping it passing an MOT test is that it has rusted undersills that need welding. Would this be a worthwhile and/or expensive job?

I know it depends on the level of the damage, but assuming it's an MOT failure it must be pretty bad. Thanks for the help and feedback.

sills are not to bad and can be replaced
you also need to check around the body kit is attached especially around the rear arches as these trap moisture and rot very easily, petrol filler cap is a bad rust area and will rot the inner arch aswell. also check the foot wells and the mounting points for the front subframe.
i had a rs1800 i was goign to turn into a track car but due to the exsessive rust in the area i just mentioned i scrapped it.

Sills are a problem on most mk3 fiestas now coz of their age and if they've not already been replaced they will need to be.

They are really cheap and easy to replace, just but 2 new sills from hadrian body panels for a tenner each, cut the old sills off and weld the new ones on

its a good idea to waxoil inside and out the new sills too to try and prevent them rusting again

Its basically the "door ledge" you see when you open the door all the way round to where it meets the chassis with a join you can see stuck down when you look under the car
