 Post subject: electric welder question

im thinking of buyin a electric arc welder to weld sum plates to my car 4 delocking but would a electric arc welder be suficiant to weld up sum holes in my floor or woul u sugest a proper mig welder if any 1 can help would be helpfull

wouldn't recomend arc welders for body work, too hot apparently

arc welder will blow holes in ur floor and body work m8 get a mig gas/gasless both good enough ok and alot easyer to use

You will really struggle to weld a car with an arc welder . even using 2mm rods, i dont think youd get a proper consistent weld.

Go for a MIG welder 130 amp and if possible use it with gas, dont like the gasless wire, doesnt work too well IMO, only prob with Gas is getting a bottle, youll need to hire one and get it filled which aint cheap, or at a push you can use pub CO2 gas which you will get away with, not as clean a weld , but will penetrate andnot blow holes everywhere

if youre buying a MIG welder get 0.8 mm wire and nozzles when buying it

agree with above, get 130Amp MIG welder will do everything you likly to need working on a car, Arc welding on anything below 1.6mm thick is tricky to say the least!

If you aint 100% what you are doing then i strongly recommend just paying someone could cause damage to the car and more importantly yourself.

When i was first learnt to weld... :sigh: ...take a guess what i did :P

this was at the hospital :cry: its a horrible pain!

:lolz: :lolz: :lolz: - i look like a tit thought...its not worth the pain so don't do it.lol pay someone on a hobble it'll work out cheaper and probably less painfull.lol
