Everybolt hs a torque setting so will all need a torque wrench, as Des has said two at a minimum and three if you can to cover the huge range of torque values needed!
Just look at the front page of each section in the Haynes book of lies and you'll see what I mean :)

Connecting the loom up is a piece of piss and not scary at all!!

Connecting the battery and turning the key, that on the other hand is an arse twitcher ;)

Seriously though, you'll be fine, just take your time and dont be a twat :D

Just remember though, the first time you go to start it unplug the coil pack and run it on the starter until the oil pressure light goes off.
Then reconnect it and turn her over, makes sure that the head is full of oil before it get higher revs and saves any extra damage to the cams/followers ;)

It takes a while for the light to go off, and prolongs the agony, but worth it IMO ;)

As Danny says, its a great feeling when she's running herself! Although, if your like me and can't wait it'll be a noisy feeling as I started her for the first time with the exhaust manifold off :D Smoke and fire spitting out the exhaust ports... Niiiiiccceeeee :)

Well technically, every last bolt and nut on your car has a torque setting :lol: It's not just for things that need to be tightened as much as you can, torque wrenches stop things from being over tightening and snapping. Like I say, I needed the smaller range one because the camshaft cap covers only needed something like 14nM applied or whatever it was, and my main one didn't go that low (or, I didn't trust it that low because it was on the bottom of the scale).

Ooo, didn't see page two of replies! :D Already answered :lol:

Listen to us and you will be fine chap - great advice from Paul there about the first time you start it up! I remember having rebuilt my engine, and getting it all back in the car, that first turn of the key (after getting the oil pressure up) is so nerv racking! But do it all right, and you'll be fine :)

Check in Haynes that all the torque settings are in Nm/ft lb etc as some bolts (Head etc) may require a degree to finish them so you'll need to get a seperate tool for that eg.

When i've rebuilt, i've always wiped the rocker cover off just before and poured oil over the cams then cranked over as previously said.

thanks Paul, ill try remember that but before i start her i will posting a thread with things i need to check beforehand :P

thanks Des, i see what you mean, i sometimes get to a bolt and think 'is this tight enough or too tight?' so ill keep that in mind.

well i have the rocker cover off atm as im spraying it. it also needs oil in so ill pour a little over the cams before i put the rocker cover on :)
