I know this is the wrong forum entirely but as theres a few members that are very passionate about french cars I thought there maybe someone in the know. :)

Basically I'm looking at a VTR, its had a refurbed rear axle put on and the guy says he's lowered it 1 notch...a lot of people on the saxo forum say this is bad and can damage the rear axle but I dunno why so wanted to get a sure answer on it, as to whether I should go look or leave the car alone?

Mine was lowered using this method, the problem is of course you have a torsion bar instead of a spring, and in spring terms its like just moving the top of the spring upwards.

If its already done and fine then I wouldn't worry about it.

Ah right, thats brill then, yeh its already been done its just I heard as it breaks the trailing arm seal or something it can let water in and allow the axle to break quicker? Did you have any problems?

I would imagine its quite hard, espesh as the VTR was bought a lot on mums insurance by kids.

Wat u mean? most are crashed lol?

N yeh true although insurance are pissing me about over no claims so might have to settle for a furio for now :(

Not so much crashed, just chavv'ed and ragged.

My mate had a Furio, not bad for a 1.4 and the same looks as the VTR/S

What about an S1 106 XSi 1.4 8v.. I had one, Very cheap to insure, and kept up with 106 gti's until triple digits.

Though they are older (L reg mine was) and they have a few mod cons missing (PAS, air con etc) but very cool cars and cheap and easy to to work on.

Lowering them using the notch method isn't very good for the torsion bar, or for performance as your banging it down 30/35mm at a time, when you need to get some spanners out, and spend more time doing it a couple of mm at a time until it sits to the specific ride characteristic that you want. However if it's been done already, as Percy said, don't worry about it! wash it from your mind. if you fiddle now, you could well end up forking out for a new beam.
