Oh, forgot to say, I've also got some caliper paint for the 4-pots to make them.... ahem ... stand out a bit more

Not the exact one but you'll get the idea ;)

I'm sure it will be, it wasn't actually that it was the wrong way round, that pipe was for the rocker cover to air filter and not the thermostat to heater matrix as I first thought it was.

So you just need to make sure you are getting 8 hoses. The 6 in the original kit then the thermostat to heater matrix and water rail to thermostat ones as per the image lower down in my other thread.
Just had a look and I didn't ever get part numbers for them, but Mark'll keep you right dude :)

Right, few updates today

Oil pressure is worryingly low, fork all at idle when warms and won't go over 3.5bar flat out. So, goin to do an oil change and see if I've just cooked the oil like I hope.
If that doesn't work then ill get a mechanical oil pressure gauge to check my sender isn't just playing up.
Failing that I guess a new oil pump is in order :(
Once that's fixed I've got some nice Millers nano drive 5W40 to put in her :)

Went to the scrappy today and got a new drivers window as mines has massive scratches up it from catching on the guide.
Also picked up a Mk5 sunroof and seal to go on along with another set of digital white dials with a much longer tail to put in. All three things had for £20 :)
Stopped off at Maplin to pick up some copper clad board for the digital dials but they didn't have any so bought a cordless dremmel thingy as mines is gubbed.

Forgot as well I got the bearings etc for the gear linkage mod on Zetecinside so will do that next time the cars up (guess that'll be the oil pump if I need to do it!)

Maybe get round to doing some of that tomorrow after I've changed the discs an pads on my neighbours Colt!!

:halo: Right, well the Colt brake change never happened on Sunday as my neighbour had to shoot out so spent some time with the Fez :)

Replaced the drivers side window and its now a million times better, when I had the glass out I saw what I had done wrong before when I changed the locks. I had jammed the metal security frame thing the wrong side of the door skin tab and it was this scratching the window to buggery! Once that clicked in my head, took 2 minutes to position it correctly! Wish I had taken the glass out the last time round as I spent ages trying to get it to fit before giving up and just screwing it back together

Replaced the sunroof and seal with the Mk5 one, but I'm not convinced about the seal, it appears too high and is causing the sunroof to not close flush without a lot of pushing. Have got pics but can't be arsed uploading just now, will do it when I get home. Anyone else fitted the Mk5 seal and got it to work? It looks like it is pushing the glass rearwards and clashing on the roof skin at the back. You'll see what I mean when I put the pics up. Its water tight and ive got the original seal so will probably just change that back next time I'm playing about.

Did an oil change as well in 10 minutes flat, sump plug came off a breeze. Oil filter was still only hand tight so was easy! Joys of changing the oil often I suppose :halo:
Only thing was the oil filter was practically empty, which supports my theory that the oil pressure relief valve is the culprit for my low pressure as this diverts the oil away fromthe filter when open to stop it exploding.
Unfortunately this is under the sump on the mondeo oil pump and not under the oil filter like on the Fiesta!! :banghead:

New Genuine Ford pump from eBay bought and paid for (£29.99 winner!) and various gaskets and seals from Ford £113.6 (not such a winner :( )

When I was under the bay last night I started her up as I thought I had heard knocking, and sure enough a clacking metallic knocking noise from around the oil pump area :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: Nooooooooooo......bottom ends gone, fuck, just about to pull my sorry arse out and go look for new engines when I noticed the Aux Belt Tensioner moving. Looked a bit longer and sure enough the little fucker has lost its springyness and was making the clacking noise!! Halelujah, my engine is safe!! Switched her off and there she'll sit until I change the oil pump :)

So, anyone changed an oil pump in situ? Any advice?

Paul

Do you have to push it closed each time or just the first time you fitted it??

 Well, that's the oil pump just arrived at work

Nice shiny new one, from a Mondeo rather than a Fiesta but that's no biggy!
Just need to wait on a phone call from Ford to say the rest of the bits are here and i'll be laughing.

Was looking last night on Microcat at the Auxiliary drive belt tensioner and I think we've ordered the wrong one.
The latest version of EPC or whatever they use onlyhad one FINIS code for the two pulleys although one is an idler and the other a tensioner. My old version (2011) shows the two as seperate parts with seperate FINIS codes.
Also, the price indicated on my one is enough to scare you into never buying a Fiesta!! €150 or thereabouts if my memory is right, was certainly well into three figures anyway  :wth:

So if anyone has a decent one let me know, but I'm not paying you £100 for it

Will update once bits from Ford are here :)

sadly yes Paul. a pain but it looks 1000x's better than the original one. i dont tend to open that often anyway (especially now winters here) so you dont have to worry until summer :)

ouch on that tensioner! can you not just go to a scrappy and have a look around?

Thats a pain Ben. Granted, it won't be getting opened much as you say!

Yeah, will be looking out for one at the scrappy but mooking on Microcat I think it's only the Fiesta Zetec (Si or RS1800) its on and dont get many of them in any more :(

Will see if an Escort silver top has the same as they turn up a bit more often up here!

Escorts will have the same tensioner. Most silvertop engines will in fact.

Quick update, was out in the garage last night and decided to have a look at my calipers.

Got the Dremel out and gave them a once over, quick clean with brake cleaner and threw a coat on to see how they look.

Image

Think i'll strip the pads out tonight and do the second coat properly.

I think they'll stand out, what you think??? :wack:

Right, well i have finally moved the Si onto the drive and started work on her. Granted, this update is going to be about ten paragraphs shorter than I wanted it to be but I ended up helping (to be read as doing) my neighbours daughters brake discs and pads.

So, work done so far, cam cover off, TDC set, three bolts removed from Starter (she wont shift, but that's the point I went to help m neighbour) and thats it... shit, I thought id done more than that!!

Right, list to check off:

Remove exhaust whole from downpipe - Done :)
Remove starter - Done :)
Lock flywheel - Done :)
Drop front engine mount slightly - Didn't need to.
Remove Crank pulley - Done :)
Remove alternator (its in the way) - Done :)
Remove sump
Take timing belt off - Done :)
Change oil pump
Change water pump (it sounds so easy when you write it on two short lines ;) )
Throw it back together
Change oil pressure gauge for Stack one
Take for a test drive
Grin like a fucking idiot
Then probably wrap her round a tree.

Ok, so the last one is optional.

Then, I need to put on the rear coilies, rear arm poly bushes and fit the 4-pots

Things to buy
Mondeo Servo
New cams
New followers (unless the cams are from a scrappy, in which case they'll be thrown in my tool box :D )

Fuck, this list is bigger than I wanted it to be :(
And it doesnt include the body work I want to fix......Sigh!
