having spent the last 6 months stripping out as much weight as possible, ive just gone and got myself a second hand 6 point roll cage weighing 36kg!
Having done a few track days this year thought is was worth the weight gain for safety and stiffen up the shell.

the counter the extra weight ive also got some ZX9R motor bike carbs to fit and a OMEX programmable ingition ECU wich hope will push it to 155-160bhp

unfortunatly the bolt in cage wont add much stiffness.

    is it a
    bolt to existing place ?
bolt to existing place with strengthing plate
or bolt to a fabricated mount?

hope it will add a bit of stiffness, Im bolting it in to MSA blue book race regs on steel reinforcement plates and also looking at adding additional 4 mounting points, door pillar upper seat belt mounts and front of roof as the OMP 10 point cage. just wondering if to also fit door bars or not.

as a minimum for safety you need reinforcement plates welded to the floor as the last thing you want is to roll it and the cage punts holes in the floor. as for door bars. personally i would. but some people bitch and moan that its a pig to get in and out of. depends how much of a sacrifice you want to make really. ;)

bit of a change in initial plans having rather than the carbs now also got some GSXR throttle bodies, so going to go down the route sk8xtrm did http://www.fiesta-si.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11840&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=90

will get it all fitted and hopefully some before and after rolling road runs to see the differance

Be nice to see how much power they add by doing it with the maf etc

But as you have the omex then why not use that with the gsxr?

the OMEX ECU i have is a ignition unit only not the more expensive fuel and spark, depends on how it goes if it seems the standard MAF and ECU are holding it back may have a try at Megasquirt ECU

just spent the day scraping out some of the sound deadening, removed 3.5kg of the stuff just from the front so far with the boot and rear seat area to do must be 8-10kg in total. that will go some way to counter the weight of the cage.

Good work, looks like a real nasty job though, will it all be ready for the 27th Feb?

27th is still (only) 6 weeks away!, just got to paint the cage and weld on the plates,
and bolt it in, but currently waiting for another manifold plate so i can fit the throttle bodies. There is still a good chance

Removed the rest of the sound deadening stuff today think there was about 7kg in the end. Also welded in the strengthening plates for the roll cage, these must be two of the worse jobs. Wouldn’t want to fit a cage into a decent car after all the scratches Ive caused :( :(
