Post subject:  How Easy??2.0L Conversion

i have decided 2 do the 2.0L conversion at the end of the year after seein how cheap it is 2 get insured!

i have read the topic posted in the guides section and all the post that have been posted on in the past.

can any1 tell me how difficult it is do myself, i am fairly clueless when it comes 2 cars!

i am gettin there slowly

Despite this being a "relatively" easy conversion, if you dont have a clue about things like engines, then it's still not a job to be recommended. Its an "easy" conversion for those who know engines.

im just starting mine! its not hard really just make sure you read about it as much as possible and make sure your sure about eberything you do before you do it!!

also if the 2l engine is coming from a breakers yard etc, do the cambelt water pump and various other things while its out of the vehicle.. will save a lot of effort later when you realise the cambelt is about to snap / has snapped etc.

If this was me i'd strip it all out take the head off give it a good clean out and re-build it with new parts here there and everywhere.. but thats for people with money i spose :)

Start by supporting the engine with a hoist (not your mate built like a shit brick house)

Secure it on the proper lifting points of the engine.

Undo left engine mount, transmission mount and if theres a mount on the back get that undone aswell (i havent even looked around my engine bay yet :lol: )

*edit* Remove all block connectors from sensors, remove ecu.
Remove all water pipes and fuel pipes.
Probably some sort of spill off pipe on the injectors aswell, may need that to come off.

Just common sense really, anything attached to the engine needs to be unclipped / disconnected or you'll bitch it on the way out.

Hoist the engine out, swap parts from the 1.6 engine onto the 2litre engine.. and you may want to take the inlet manifold to an engineers see if they can bore it out so its bigger (more power).

(be so careful when hoisting it out that you arent stretching wires.. as ive done before and spent hours fixing looms.. not a nice job :( )

Swap gearbox over (not the easiest job ever)

change clutch for a fast road one while your at it.. or whatever you can afford.

Do any work to the engine you want.. cambelt would be piss easy - 10min job (i seriously advise it)..

Stick the old engine in your neighbours front garden (or wheely bin :lol: ), put the 2litre on the hoist ready.

swap ecu and engine bay wiring loom (consult haynes manual and other people).

lower engine in, wire it up, dont bitch any wires or you'll be fuming.

do all mounts up, make sure you pray before turning it over..

any mod that puts this sort of weight gain on the vehicle will make the brakes performance poor.

*WHEN DRIVING: remember you will prob get a bit of "torque steering", where the power just goes straight while you turn and the over-riding power pushes you off the road at a bend. - best ask someone with the conversion if they get this at all*

Oh and lastly probably least of your worries - make sure to change tyre pressures to suit otherwise you'll waste those rubbers.

Hope thats a bit more of an insight..

Remember as des sed.. its an easy conversion for people who know how and have had engines out before, but for people who havent even changed spark plugs its probably best left to someone who knows a bit more (afterall if you want it to run again sweet as a nut you will want it done properly..)

..that said if you want some practice at the engine swap go to a local scrapyard courtesy of the pikeys and undo engine mounts on a fiesta, ok so you dont want the engine but they dont know that..

Also you'll be helping someone else, AND its free education as long as you dont kill yourself :)

yup thats the one! at this rate im gonna be skinted before i even get the engine in!!ive had to buy a crane and a stand, just bought a gasket set, a reducer pipe from burton power and ive just had to give ford 40quid to fix my basterd manifold! and ive just put a bid on some recaros that i now cant afford i hope i get out bid lol!

nope im not a mechanic, i have had a few years experience with cars though! i worked in a respray shop for year and a half, that included polishing, dismantling, rebuilding, valeting and general prep work, so i learnt quite a bit from that as you can see:
i dismantled it and rebuilt it after the respray, i just find reading loads of stuff about fiestas, mainly haynes manual and picking stuff up on different websites etc

i have a mate that specialises in Engine conversions.... he quoted me ?600 for the 2.0l Focus lump to go in my Si.... that also included him sourcing the best possible engine mileage and condition etc... if your intrested in a quote gimme a PM

err the stand was an ebay jobbie at 25quid and the crane was 180 from machine mart with a lifting stap and shackles!

Cant you just hire the hoist/crane for a week or so?
Its not like u will be using it often.
