Best thing to do if you're wondering what's tested, is think 'is it safe?'

Brakes are tested, to make sure you can stop properly and safely.
Windscreen stuff is tested, to make sure you can see safely through it.
Lights are tested to make sure you can safely see at night (unless as mentioned in the main post).
Tyres are checked to make sure you can safe stay on the road.
Seatbelts are checked to help keep you safer in the event of an accident.

Keeps on going like that.
