Post subject:  Fiesta gearbox removal (clutch, gearbox, driveshafts etc)

Hi all.

I'm no where near as experienced as the likes of Mouse etc but this guide is written by me, a down to earth level headed guy who is only a 2nd year apprentice.

So you could call me a DIY mechanic :insanity: funded by Renault.

This guide isn't yet complete and I am struggling with the last few steps, more pictures to be added, and the order of the steps is questionable at times.

If anyone has any input please don't hessitate to be critical - I can take it, Honest! :lol:

looks good, but can i ask a couple of Q's, why undo the shifter? you can just undo the linkages as it joins the 'box. and why remove the shafts from the Hub? you can pull shafts out of 'box. then drop box on its own, instead of dropping box with shafts in it.

Gonna be fitting a new 'box to mine hopefully on saturday.

Good guide, just a few comments

"Use a pry bar jammed in the brake disc to stop it turning" - I wouldnt do this, much easier to get somebody to put there foot on the brakes. Or, if the car has steel wheels loosen this whilst on the ground. Dont forget to stake the nut back in when its tightened up again.

Removing the hub from the shock sounds a bit OTT, much easier to pop the ball joint out, no need to mess with the ARB or track rod end.

A copper hammer on the end of the shaft normally shifts it after a few cracks :)

It is mate, but I'd rather have my brakes in one piece, plus if its a lower spec or a diesel it will have solid discs.
