not got one, BUT from what i hear it is taken from the car you take the engine from, so in effect the same class as a ford mondeo.. you could try running an insurance quote on confused.com for a ford mondeo 2L see what comes back, then add a bit to it ;)

Ive asked my mate if he can give me a hand getting mine to a 2ltr..

Just wondering about the gearbox.. will the 2ltr gearbox out of the mondy fit or will i have to use the Si one or get a RS1800 one?

cheers

the mondy box doesn't fit, you can either you the 1.6 Si box or the rs1800 box

JD uses and xr2i box not sure which one, you could also you the FRST box or the escort RST box with a LSD

( someone correct me if i am wrong )

So using the 1800 box would be best then do ya think..

I know using the SI box it would accelerate faster but i want to see abit more of a change..

Abit more of a change in what? the 1800 box will give you a higher top end, si for acceleration. If you do lots of motorway miles, i recoment the 1800, otherwise just stick with the si

If you put it like that, i think id go with the 1800 box just for the sake that i drive quite abit on motorways and stuff, and even with the 1800 box it would still bloody go well wouldnt it!

Ive seen someone say they have a 1800 diesel gearbox in with a 2ltr, does it make a difference or would it be better to get rs1800 gearbox?

So, SI 1600 gearbox, acceloration..

rs1800 for top end, better mpg?

sorry for the stupid questions, i dont know too much about these thing

Si for acceleration, 1800 for slightly less acceleration, but higher top end i.e longer 4th, 5th so mpg will be better at motorway cruising speeds.

A diesel box can apparently be used, It would be good for mpg but its quite a long box, i.e like 5000rpm at 120mph or something silly so acceleration would be alot slower than the others, but probs still better than standard si power. I was thinking of going down the diesel rout myself, but it doesnt quite offer good enough gear rations for overtaking kinda speeds, unless you want to do 70mph in second, as apparently that what it can do!

Im sticking with the si box in mine as i do alot of country driving, and require lower ratios for better overtaking acceleration, I would probs put the 1800 in, but cant be botherd to try and find one. tbh I dont think it will make a drastic difference which one you choose really.

Have you checked with your insurance yet? Alot of companies wont insure with the modification. BTW, Im 21 and found insurance for the 2.0 with £1500 limit on body mods fully comp with redline insurance and protected noclaims to be £788 which was a dam steal, basicly £30 more than im paying atm!

just put a 2.0 in mine with the standard si gearbox,it goes like poo off a stick but it is a bit loud on the motorway, 4000 rpm at 80 mph for two hours starts to get on your tats,it depends on what you intend to use the car for.
