im not sure if this is the right section or even if i've posted this before(im sure i have but couldn't find it anywhere :s)

Anyway i keep seeing more n more on these forums about people who are keeping their written off car after the accident and still getting the value of the car paid out. I dont see how this is possible as insurance companies are meant to send it for salvage aren't they?

I wanna know how u can do this as i understand u can make quite a profit breaking it :?

cheers

I've heard of people buying it back off the insurance company but never getting full payout too :?

yeh as far as im aware you can buy it back off them and its usually quite cheap as your saving them the hassle of scrapping it or something like that!!!

I owned a black Si. Old bloke not looking = me t-boning him.

Insurance tried to pay out crap amount after they decided it wasn't worth fixing, so I got my solicitor involved and got the full amount back. But while this was going on, the first letter they sent after writing it off was one stating that "the salvage value of your car is £0 and this will be deducted from your final settlement".

Aceness. So I got the car back, sold it as it was, and got the full amount of money I paid for it back off them.

They only offer you to buy cars back when the damage is quite light because they think that car is worth repairing privately rather than them stumping up for the repair bill which will usually be more than the car is worth. The usually give you what the car is worth minus what you are paying for the car back. If you have quite a bad knock they very rarely give you the chance to buy back.
