Yeah, but I bet it's based on factory stats, rather than actualy weight. So you cant strip your car and get cheaper insurance (which would be good).

Think we'll all just have to wait and see...

The factory weight on Car X is pretty light! :P :D

Would I be wrong in thinking in Germany they weight cars for tax purposes?

perhaps this may discourage people from buying 4 wheel drives they dont really need....i live in a rural area...and there are times of the year they are a godsend....

ill admit..i do own one aswell....but its always been under a specialist policy because of what it is..(also sentimental attachent too means i wont rid of it unless its very very unviable)..whilst still being sorted out and not on the road..even when it is a car that averages 12 to the gallon running about means i cant use it daily and not become personal friends of all the local filling station staff!.the fact the system is about to change could mean i wont get to use it at all or very little due to its weight, cubic displacement etc.(like we dont pay enough in fuel duty as it is!)..looks like ill have to wait and see how it goes as far as the charges for a 2.0 fiesta go!

it does annoy me that so many mum's use large 4 wheel drives on school runs...many of them only capable of driving into situations they cannot get out of without causing others to take action, never venturing off of a tarmac surface kind of defeats the object of ownership really

okay thats my rant over......in short...this sucks for most if not all...if anyones insurance goes down ill be suprised

My Parents drive a 4x4. mainly due to it being easier for them when pulling their caravan.
Does get used off road though, my dad's a member of the Nissan 4x4 owners club thing and does off roading days etc.
So not all 'city' 4x4's are just town cars
