Anyone got any tips on how I can get the price down? I'm looking at comparethemarket and the cheapest for a 1.4si is £3400... Any ideas? Lol

Grow older lol.

On a serious note there isnt much you can do to change your insurance at that age with no ncb.
Try getting a 1.1 fiesta for a year or 2 then work your way up, its a pain because you want something better but we all have to start somewhere.
Im 25 and my insurance is still rediculous lol.

Jeez insurance is expensive for young drivers :(

Perhaps going on a parent insurance/put parent as named driver/main driver might help. You just have to make sure you get your own NCB if you go down that route though because some insurance companies don't let you.

Being named on your parents policy and being the main driver is fronting and it will be invalid if they can prove it (which they will try in the case of a claim).

As mentioned adding your parents as named drivers can make a massive difference.

Also have a look at the pass plus scheme, I did it and it did help as a driver but also got me a discount on insurance.

As mentioned getting a 1.1 is a good idea, to be honest I started there, I couldn't have one now but at the time it was amazing (and faster than the bus).

if your willing to go down the route of having a tracker fitted that keeps an eye on your speed, distance, mph, etc, then go for that as its the best thing you can do to save money.

Nephew has just done it. Passed last month, now has a Mk4 Fiesta 1.25 on £800 TPFT with his mother as a named driver.

He's 17 too.

Cheers guys. Both parents are named drivers and is still that! When i looked at 1.1's and 1.2'a they weren't actually that much cheaper!

Might look into pass plus though as my instructor does offer that

I will say even if pass plus doesn't lower your quotes it is worth while doing for the experience.

As Ry said a tracker may be a good idea.

Yeah i've looked at trackers too, but the negatives can over weigh the positives. Like you get a curfew on it which would be no good to me because of work or coming home late from shows or whatever.

Try other vehicles, 1.0 corsas are cheap to insure.

This is very true, the old corsas with 3 pot engines seem very cheap to insure.

I would really recommend just getting the slowest/cheapest to insure car you can for a couple of years, ford or not.
