Dudes and dudettes, please help me:

I had my xr2i insured under virgin car insurance from april 08, paying monthly installments of 28.50. Subsequently when i got my new car i couldnt afford to put either on a policy with no no-claims (i.e. my 5yr ncb was tied to one car) so I swapped the xr2i off for the new car.

My xr2i then sat on the drive until last week when I decided that i might as well get joint insurance for both cars and cancel my virgin policy. I went and got a quote from admiral (also robbing sh1ts) and phoned up virgin to cancel my single car policy.

mind i had two months left to pay:

me:
"how much to cancel my policy please"

"erm, calculating.... one months premium (£28.50) plus admin fee of £10"

"Ok, I'll cancel please"

"Oh, its saying it wants £45.60 from you, tell you what cancel your dirct debit and we'll let the computer do a rethink and settle the bill, it should be what i told you. A bill will arrive by post"

"Thanks"

We'll I just got a bill for £81 for canellation fees. WTF?

phoned virgin and was told that I have to pay it. I then told them I'm not a pleb, i would have waited another two months, forked out less cash and got another years ncb if i knew this was the case

"nope sir, you have to pay"

I hung up.

any ideas????? In my experience you can never beat the man. I tried it with N-power and i lost. badly.

p.s admiral: multicar policy:

2008 fiesta zetec-blue
1990 xr2i

= £650 fully comp.

pay monthly = £831. robbery.

inform them that you were miss informed and make contact with the financial insurance ombudsman to test their opinion

Can you remember the date of when you first called?

Most calls are recorded to be honest, as Ive had kinda the same thing with a company like that before and they went back to check the records and realised what was said/done

Saying that it should be on record that you called!. So tell them to check the calls! if they dont fob you off with "we dont have it"

Other than that, do as above and complain.

I would have waited 2 months for the NCB personally anyway :(

yeah i did think about my ncb, but then the extra years ncb would have only saved me another £5 a year! I think many companies stop paying attention to it once you have five years ir more. :)

spoke to virgin, they are sending a breakdown of the bill. hmmm. thanks guys.
