Just got myself one of these, its a very good read, covers everthing from what a track day is, the rules, differences in event set ups, car info ie tyres suspension etc, a UK track guide, cornering guides, and loads of websites and contact details.

Very useful if you want to get into track days or like me have already done a couple but want to learn more.

Powers not too important when you start a track day its more about getting used to the circuits, handling and how to take corners. (this is according to the book!)

I tend to agree, I am not the fastest on the straights and usually get passed, but when I get to a corner I can keep with most things, take Silverstone at Ford Fair, I passed quite a few faster cars mid corner, and managed to keep a Saph Cossie behind me, this has also happened at Snetterton with a couple of Fiesta ST's.

wouldn't worry about power or skill. Start out on Novice days and you can't go wrong.

ps, if i faster car cant pass you on the straights....your just getting in the way. Happens to me all the time, people just dont look.
