So what do you think of it? just out of general interest

good and bad points? :)

Some of you may know i may be tempted by the dark side of the Mk4 fiesta as a first car...

Yeah but surely you could be tempted by a sexy mk4 with morettes and a nice, less rounded bumper

http://www.fiesta-si.com/history3.php

And i don't know why.. but i have warmed to the shape of the front a little.. it's just a passing thought for me really

engine conversion makes it appeal even more as well

But what do people think about the actual car? the build quality? etc etc :?

a mate has a 1.25 mk4 and something i did notice is the interior looks alot more sturdy and substantial, dosent creak and that as much as the mk 3. they look ok with the morrettes and that i have to say though mate

can be made to be nice.

can you afford a FRP conversion Ry? you ever priced it up :P 1.25 would have enough poke for you Ry, ya big girl. build quality is solid, and is as good as any mk3. id suggest either the ghia or the si though :)

Hey this wont happen for a few months ya know :P

But i want to get solid first car, and a 1.25 engine would be nice to have as they are solid, and the Si model would be perfect, but it all depends on insurance & being able to actualy get hold of one for a good price

The ghia would be nice but then it's only in 5 door as far as i know, but then when thinking of body mods it would only really need skirts anyway..

And maybe after a year or two of ownership and some ncb i could afford a 1.7 lump to be used with a few grand, such a lot of bhp for such a small car.. gotta love it really... :)

No doubt it will be black, a 1.25 and.. bodywork should be ok to build on :D *dreams*

Ah well it only took me less than a month to sort out moving 180 odd miles away and get a flat, so a car should be a bit easier hopefuly.. and if so it will be mine soon!

*continues dreaming*

yeah the mk4 1.25 is a zetec s(e?)

though if the price was low enough and it was in good condition i could be tempted easily by a 1.3 or 1.8d even! it's a first car and i want to build my ncb and the intention of speed is not a main priority at first as i dont want to crash it when i first get it

As standard they're not the most attractive looking of cars but a few mods to the front (bumber n grill), skirts and slamming it, and it looks quite tidy.

Then theres the 1.7 puma conversion

A mate of mine has a 1.25, it feels alot more solid than my Si and i don't think hes had any trouble with it.

All it needs really imo is ZS skirts and alloys, lowering and a smooth boot.

:D You know what I think.

1.25s are surprisingly nippy, I love mine to bits. The only downside is the power assited steering, after 30-40mph, it struggles against you, so you cant go round corners at silly speeds. Which in a way is a good thing, but your arms ache after a while, especially in Notts, Im sure they designed the road layout with a 3 year old and a crayon

The chassis is bloody sturdy, and stays pretty planted. You yourself know how quick it gets from standing to 50-60mph, after that it's pretty lethargic, but it shifts through the gears pretty nicely. If you do get a zetec, the throw on the gear gearbox is a lot shorter.

Go for it :)
